GSU colleague James Poulakos posts a comment telling me about the Livetype User forums:
As a new LiveTypes user, I searched for websites that offered any new, freely downloadable Effects for LiveType. Having found one, so far, I shared a few effects of my own, downloaded a few, and even posted a tip on where to put these downloaded effects files.
I thought it might help busy teachers to know where to go to find, and share their own, LiveType effects. Like any online community, you get more if you give more, so consider posting some of your own, if you have any. Let’s face it, the ones that ship with LiveType [the good ones] will soon become as tired to our eyes as PowerPoint dissolves. Here’s a door to a potential new spice cabinet.
The site is http://www.livetypeuser.com/, but I refer specifically to the forums: a forum in the LiveTypeUser forums|Project Sharing area called “LiveType Effects Files”. It’s a fledgling community, but worth your while to visit if you want to find free, new LiveType effects. ——-

Jerry commented yesterday on my post about MiMovies from a couple of weeks ago. He suggests looking at Cellulo, a donationware app that uses QuickTime for presentations, more types of movie playback, and other functions. Cellulo’s developer has an active support forum and an evolving To-Do list of features he’s working on.
Nice looking app, Cellulo, and I plan to check it out, but the real find was Jerry’s site, well organized (except for the Flash intro page, which my link bypasses – sorry, Jerry – which you can find here if you’d like) and full of links to a wide variety of instructional technology papers, applications, tutorials, examples, presentations… Jerry’s site offers a very useful directory of links and encouragement. Highly recommended.——-

Dave Winer: “Yesterday I almost posted a note that I hadn’t seen a popup since installing SP2. Today, the first popup that circumvents Microsoft’s anti-popup code popped up. Screen shot. Arrrgh. The race goes on.”
Good luck with that, Dave.——-

Instructors, take notice, and begin your budget juggling, for the cameras and for systems with the processing speed and disk space to edit this stuff.
MacNN reports: “Sony unveiled Monday the HDR-FX1 Handycam camcorder, the world’s first HDV 1080i camcorder. The HDR-FX1 features Sony’s newest three-chip, one-megapixel Super HAD CCDs that include an on-chip micro-lens on top of the CCD sensor that increases the light focusing rate for focusing on the fly. The camcorder utilizes MPEG-2 compression, records to standard DV tapes, features a 12x optical zoom, and 3.5-inch SwivelScreen LCD. The camcorder will ship in November for about $3,700. Sony also plans to introduce new HD DVC videotapes, optimized for 1080i recording, which will sell for $18 per cassette.”
More HDR-FX1 links via Google.——-

Assistive Media posts RealAudio streams of essays, articles, and fiction from a wide range of popular magazines, including Harper’s, The Atlantic, and several others. I’ll be listening to a Louis Menand essay on George Orwell later, and after that, a piece by Tony Hendra on the rise and fall of the National Lampoon.——-
